What's New?

Forever and an Age

Well, it's been over a month since my last update.  What have I been doing? Nothing.

Well, that's not quite true.  I've been cleaning up after two never-housetrained men (I'd call them boys, but 27 and 34 aren't the ages of children...), learning to cook traditional meals (this week: stew and chili in a slow cooker!), and recovering from various illnesses (well, nothing new there).  Illnesses? Throat infection, lost my voice entirely for days and had to write every comment down.  Yes, yuck it up - to be honest, it was hilarious watching someone who talks as much as I do trying to cope with the silence, especially since we were in Vancouver.

Why Vancouver, you ask?  Well, remember that charming young metalhead featured this summer?  The one who likes to call himself my boyfriend?  Ok ok... the one who IS my boyfriend.  That poor man was stood up for a Mexican holiday and - still having the vacation booked and money for a flight - decided to take me to Vancouver to see two of my best friends, rather than sit alone on a sandy beach.  Personally, I think he's a fool for making that choice, but I love him even more for it.  So, we arrived for a weekend surprise visit with Ms. November, Danica, and had a great time hanging out with her and her significant other, the incomparable Krishna.

Danica has been going through a similar transition period to my own, which she has been dutifully tracking on her own blog at http://somethingprecious.blogspot.com/ .  I find her blog pretty durn interesting, especially since she is studying interior design and often posts links/info.  She also tends to post when she gets acting work - including a stint on my favourite show, Psych!, slated to air this january and 14hrs of shooting for Caprica yesterday :)  You never know, might be worth the visit...

On top of a weekend with near-strangers, poor Yves had to endure MEETING THE PARENTS.  I know, you'd think hippie parents wouldn't be as intimidating to meet, but in all honesty I believe it's harder - you never quite know if they're going to conform to societal norms.  The dear man charmed them as best he could, and as a result we are OFFICIALLY LIVING TOGETHER.  Yes, I realize I moved in 4 months ago.  And that 90% of my time or more was spent at his place for a month before that.  The important part to note here is the "official" tag - we have made public our commitment to eachother.  Including telling my parents and grandparents.

(photo: Yves meets the parents - apparently everyone decides "crazy" is a better look than "omg omg omg")

Why take the commitment risk when it's hurt me so badly in the past?  Well, because he's a big stinky French sweetheart, that's why.  I could not ask for a more loving or devoted partner, and I look forward to many, many more months of domestic bliss.  Hopefully, more blissful (and sans roommate) than the last 2, but que sera sera!

What else is going on?  Well, I'm starting sessions for SketcH, a mixed media project featuring blends of my photographs with the artwork of traditional, digital and graphic artists.  After Denby and I collaborated on the infamous "Fiona with Wings" last year, I've wanted to expand the project into a larger show collection, and hopefully we will start to see final projects in the new year.

The job search is still..  alright, let's be honest.  After being rejected for RETAIL WORK at every store in Kingsway Mall, my ego took a bit of a blow.  A big blow.  I got rejected for a part time sales job at a store half the size of the clothing department I used to manage.  Economy, economy, blah blah blah - I don't care how bad things are out there, I've been working for almost 20years.  I have excellent sales and management experience, and I have nothing but rave reviews from previous employers in my professional work.  So why can't I even get an $8/hr mall job that they give to retard 10th graders? (provided they can fill out a D-cup, of course).  ARGH.

Needless to say, my job hunting took a bit of a detour after that.  But for now I am working on my design portfolio and praying for a miracle.  Anyone hiring?

Thanks for the plug, sweetie. I had a bunch of fun that weekend too, even though you guys all screwed up my sleep patterns lol. Oh well, I'll fix it when I get home.

Ah yes, I remember doing up that picture! I was thinking of making my own edit and posting it someday since I've never put it into my portfolio for some reason... :P
