Xmas List
It may seem cheap and tacky for an adult to post an xmas list, but the truth is that I don't get many gifts - it would be nice to make the ones I do get practical (ie. wanted). Also, I am so emotionally and physically distant from most of my friends and family that they never know what to get me, so many have asked for this list in past years. The list below ranges from pennies to thousands, but I certainly do not expect to get most of them: they are just a list of things I would love to get. And who knows... once my aunt put "a new roof" on her list and got it! :P Anything is possible during the holidays.
- A subscription to Harper's Bazaar. (I know this seems a little odd, but I've really taken to doing more fashion photography and fashion-style portraiture, and during my online research I've found most of my favourite shots were for this magazine. The result? I want to check it out in RL.) $20
- CF cards over 1gb (not SD cards, CF. They're getting pretty hard to find, but most camera stores still carry them. I prefer sandisk Extreme cards, they're WAY better, but anything will do. Specifically I'd like a new 4gb and an 8gb, but I'm not picky atm!) $10-$400
- Rechargable NiMh Batteries (I need TONNES of these. My favs are Energizer as they are the biggest, but anything will do. Must be sets of 4 --or 8, or 12, etc--) $15+
- New camera with lens (life going the way it has, I haven't been able to afford the upgrade planned last year. Now, with the disappearance of my battery charger and the death of my fav lens, I desperately need a new setup. I want: CANON 7D w/ 15-85 lens ... not the 15-135, that one sucks). $2800 at McBain's
- A collapsable light tent (I have no idea where to find them, but Vala ordered a few I like - ask her, www.bluemagicphotography.ca) Any white box designed for commercial shooting would probably do. $30-$100
- A photo assistant to help me plug through my files and cross check my new dockets. Price: you can't buy people, can you? hmmm... suppose they'll have to volunteer, then.
- A small gold or silver umbrella, preferably both. (These aren't the kind for rain, they're for my flash lighting setup - see any pro camera store for examples). Around $30
- Polar fleece fabric and polyester batting for making chinchilla pillows (a sewing machine would also be nice, but I have a friend who's offered use of hers). $1-$30
- 16x20 black frames from Michael's (these often go on sale to less than $10). Normally: $15. (I need 20+)
- A subscription to National Geographic or National Geographic Canada. Around $30
- A flash development course at NAIT (there are three part time courses I'm interested in) $500 ish each
- A small flashlight for my keychain (I have a particular type in mind, that I've used before - Yves can tell you - but anything cute will do!) $5 ish
- A dehydrator (for making hiking snacks, fruit leather, and chirla treats!) Price: I have no idea! Anyone got one they don't want anymore?
- A large cork board for my "office" wall (prefer framed, but I can frame it myself if needed). $5-$50 Would also happily settle for the whiteboard/corkboard/photo frame at Black's Photography for $30
- A wok (My father uses a brilliant one from London Drugs, apparently. No teflon coating and full width all the way 'round). $40
- A gift certificate for Ricki's. (My boyfriend has been feeding me too well - none of my suits fit properly anymore! And they're all at least 3 years out of date...) $30+
- A trip to Toronto to see my family! I miss them! $450 for the flight
- Fancy lingerie! (I know it sounds dirty, I just figured I'd get more attention with that than "bras and undies," and I need something to re-attract your attention this far down the list. Truth is, I haven't been shopping in well over a year for anything, practical or otherwise, and, now that there's someone in my life to notice all the holes, I'm thinking its time for a revamp. This title makes me laugh extra because I don't actually own any lingerie - tho I do have one outfit somewhere in a prop bag, I think. bra: 34B, undies: large) $15+

The wok is a Paderno Paramount 28 cm, and yes, it is from London Drugs--the only place I've seen it. And that includes the local Paderno outlet.
Excellent wok, btw. The aluminum is about 4 or 5 mils thick and the non-stick is pretty good (it claims a 20 year guarantee, but who knows....). Excellent heat transfer with no real hot-spotting. I know this sounds like an ad, but I'm so impressed that I bought a second one, and the 25 cm frypan. Good quality and value for the money--especially if you find them on sale.
Big thanks to Vala + Quinn for the early presents - Quinn gave me the exact keyring flashlight I wanted, and Vala gave me some fleece (tho I need lots more). They've also informed me that CF cards are in my future..... Thanks guys! :D
